The inspiration for M.H. was the tragic passing of a friend of mine in 2004, and the emotions that this generated. The clichéd nature of the scythe and hood of the Grim Reaper are easily recognizable as representing death. The child he leads symbolizes not only youth and innocence, but also the unjust nature of the taking of one human being’s life by another, stolen prematurely. The figures, silhouetted in cold colors and lacking any detail, impart the anger and sadness that accompanied this past experience. Splatters of emotion from these figures lead up to the dark scar that is still left today, and is literally worn on a blackened sleeve.
